Indian Premier League (IPL) ka craze har saal badhta hi jaa raha hai, aur ab BCCI is iconic tournament ko aur bhi bada banane ki planning mein hai. Arun Dhumal, jo ki IPL ke chairman hain, unhone ek major update diya hai jo har cricket fan ke liye exciting hai!
2022 mein Gujarat Titans (GT) aur Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ke aane ke baad IPL ka format 74 matches ka ho gaya tha. BCCI ne plan kiya tha ki 2025 tak isse 84 matches tak badhaya jaye, lekin scheduling issues aur broadcasters ki preference ki wajah se yeh plan delay ho gaya. Abhi ke liye tournament mid-March se May ke end tak fixed window mein hoga, aur naye franchises add nahi honge.
“Definitely, that might be an opportunity. We’ve been discussing in ICC, we’ve been discussing in-house in BCCI. Given how the interest of the fan is changing with regard to bilateral and ICC events, in regard to franchise cricket and T20 cricket, we’ll have to talk more seriously about it and see how we can create maximum value for the stakeholders of the game,”
Dhumal ne yeh bhi clarify kiya ki 2025 mein zyada matches add nahi karne ke peeche ka reason bhi practical hai.
“Ideally, we’d want a larger window, or to maybe go on from 74 to 84 or 94 at some point… So that every team gets to play against every team home and away, for that, you need 94 games. Given the window and the kind of commitments that we have with regards to bilateral cricket and ICC events, that may not be possible in the short term. But given the landscape, how it is changing and evolving over the years, maybe at some point in time we would look and take that option. There’s been so much cricket: we came back from Australia from a Test series, we had this Champions Trophy, and on top of that we have this IPL. That is why it was decided that it doesn’t make sense from going from 74 to 84 [in 2025], but whenever we think that the time is opportune, we’ll take that call.”
Toh ab yeh almost confirmed hai ki IPL ka 2028 ke media-rights cycle mein major upgrade ho sakta hai – with a massive 94-match season! Lekin yeh sab kuch broadcasters ke interest aur scheduling space pe bhi depend karega, especially ab jab Reliance-Disney merger (JioStar) game mein aaya hai.
Franchise owners bhi ek full home-and-away format chahte hain, jahan har team har team ke against home aur away match khele – lekin uske liye larger window aur smart scheduling zaroori hai.
